I have always loved being immersed in the health & wellness field. There is something about the innate wisdom of the body to heal itself that has always fascinated me and has held my interest for decades.
While working on a psychology degree at USF I decided to start doing labor and postpartum doula work, with a collective of women. Working in an intimate space with women during such life altering events forever changed me. I loved being able to support new moms in a way that felt important and meaningful to me. I eventually went to massage school to further my skill set of supporting and caring for women.
Now I could help women dealing with physical strain and mental stress in a way that made me feel purposeful. So many of us struggle with mental wellness and we don’t talk to one another about those struggles, out of fear. Fear of judgement, fear of disappointment, fear of abandonment, all sorts of reasons. These mental struggles can manifest as physical issues in the body, the stress and weight of it accumulates over time. It shows up as tight jaws, clenched teeth, rigid necks, hiked shoulders, low back pain, headaches, neuropathy, fatigue etc. At this point some women disassociate from their bodies. The mental load is too heavy and the physical aches & pains overwhelming, creating this disconnection.
Creating a safe space for women to talk, cry, yell or just lie in silence, to get back into their bodies & feel connected again, became my life’s work. I think in some way through helping other women on their journey to heal, I have slowly been healing myself.
